Make in India: the road ahead for India’s Development Saga or is it just another rhetoric? Abstract: â€Å"Make in India† campaign is an initiative that attracts the industrialists to make India a manufacturing hub that helps to create jobs. India ranks 142nd in the ease of doing business and it is becoming increasingly difficult for both Indian and foreign businessmen to start a business in India. The infrastructure in India is not good enough to attract investors. There is a lack of proper connectivity between the cities in India. The other bottleneck are taxation, Government policies, labor laws, ease of obtaining licenses and land acquisition. India must also compete with its neighbor China as both the nations are seen as growing†¦show more content†¦Historically, India has always been an agricultural nation. The major share of GDP is from this sector till the early 1950s and 60s. Down the line, its share began to decline and service sector started to emerge. Today service sector players a prominent role in the economy of India. On the other hand, Industrial s ector has been growing right from the beginning but the growth is minimal when compared to service sector. The Following graph depicts the percentage share of Individual Sectors in the country. Figure 1: Shares of Agriculture, Industry and Services in India As observed clearly from the above graph, the growth of Indian Manufacturing Sector has been minimal. This can be attributed to the myriad factors that hinder the Indian Industrial sector. On a closer introspection, there are major reasons in the country which holds back the Indian Economy. Firstly, India lacks the optimum prerequisite for the growth of Industrial Sector i.e Infrastructure. India is lagging in terms of infrastructure and more private players and public-private partnership should be encouraged to bring about the change. One such example is Jamshedpur built by TATA. It shows that the problems are able to overcome with proper policy changes. Secondly, power poses the next hindrance for the Industrial Sector. The issues related to power should be resolved as early as possible in the near future. Lack of power is a big hurdle to the running of industries. Many

A Research Study On College Students - 1498 Words

On a daily basis you are introduced to new people around you. The connections you make with the people you meet are relationships. Relationships can vary from person to person based on the type of connection you have with them. There are the relationships with family, relationships with friends, and then the relationship with a significant other. With sufficient amounts of research being done daily on all aspects of relationships and how they work, there is a significant gap in the study of college students and how they view the importance of a committed relationship. With the appearance of this gap, I am doing my research in this field and on college aged students. The key concept when developing this study is how serious and committed relationships are built and treated among college students. This study will examine the way males and females in college perceive the importance of relationships and how they participate in the different variations and if these variations change the way students look at relationships. Recent research barely touched on relationship styles, especially in college age males and females. I would like to know what males and females in their freshman and senior year in college are looking for in an intimate type of relationship. He wants to know the following information: Is the average mean greater than $45,000? Does the true population proportion of customers who live in an urban area exceed 45%? Is the average number of years lived in the current home less than 8 years? Is the credit balance for suburban customers more than $3200? Hypothesis testing and confidence intervals for situations A-D are calculated. A. We will write a custom essay sample on Aj Davis Department Store Part B or any similar topic only for you Order Now THE AVERAGE (MEAN) ANNUAL INCOME WAS LESS THAN $45,000. Solution: Step 1: Null Hypothesis: The average (mean) annual income was equal to $45,000. H_0: ? =45,0000 Step2: Alternate Hypothesis: The average (mean) annual was less than $50,000. H_a: ? 45 , a z-test for the mean will be used to test the given hypothesis. As for the alternative hypothesis, which is Ha:? 0. 45 and the given test is a one-tailed (upper-tailed) z-test. Step 4: Critical Value and Rejection Region: The critical value for significance level is ? =0. 05. The upper tail z-test is 1. 45. Rejection Region: Reject H_0,if z-statistic1. 645. Step 5: Assumptions: The sample size in this experiment is n 0. 4 95% Lower Sample X N Sample p Bound Z-Value P-Value 1 21 50 0. 420000 0. 305190 0. 29 0. 386 Step 7: Interpretation: According to the calculations, the p-value is 0. 386. This value is larger than the significance level of 0. 05. Therefore, we will not reject the null hypothesis. There is no sufficient evidence to sup port the claim that the true population proportion of customers who live in an urban area is greater than 40%. Based on the results provided by MINITAB below, the lower 95% confidence limit is 0. 28. Since 0. 42 is greater than the 95% lower confidence limit, hence, we cannot support the claim that the true population proportion of customers who live in an urban area is greater than 45%. Confidence Interval: Test and CI for One Proportion Sample X N Sample p 95% CI 1 21 50 0. 420000 (0. 283195, 0. 556805) ? C. THE AVERAGE (MEAN) NUMBER OF YEARS LIVED IN THE CURRENT HOME IS LESS THAN 8 YEARS. Solution: Step 1: Null Hypothesis: The average (mean) number of years lived in the current home is equal to 8 years. H_0: ? =8 Step 2: Alternate Hypothesis: The average (mean) number of years lived in the current home is less than 8 years. H_a: ? 50 requires that the z-test for mean be used to test the given hypothesis. The alternative hypothesis is Ha:? 3200 Step 3: Test Statistic: z= Following the provided information, the Significance Level is ? =0. 05. The alternative hypothesis is Ha: ? 3200; therefore, the given test is a one-tailed (upper-tailed) z-test. Step 4: Critical Value and Rejection Region: The critical value for significance level ? =0. 5 for an upper-tailed z-test is given as 1. 645. Rejection Region: Reject H_0,if z-statistic1. 645. Step 5: Assumptions: The sample size in this speculation is greater than 30, therefore, The Central Limit Theorem (CLT) will apply, and no assumptions need to be made. Step 6: Calculation of test statistic: One-Sample Z: Credit Balance ($) Test of mu = 3200 vs 3200 The assumed standard deviation = 742. 365 95% Lower Variable N Mean StDev SE Mean Bound Z P Credit Balance ($) 15 4675 742 192 4360 1. 96 0. 025 Step 7: Interpretation: According to the above results from MINITAB, the p-value of 0. 038 is smaller than the significance level of 0. 05; consequently, the null hypothesis will be rejected. There is sufficient evidence to support the claim that the average (mean) credit balance for suburban customers is more than $3200. Based on the results from MINITAB, which are provided below, the significance level is 0. 05; therefore, there is sufficient evidence to support the claim that the average (mean) credit balance for suburban customers is more than $3200. MINITAB reveals that the 95% lower confidence limit is 4469; therefore, 3200 is smaller than the 95% lower confidence limit, which means that the claim can be supported regarding the average (mean) credit balance for suburban customers is more than $3200. Confidence Interval One-Sample Z The assumed standard deviation = 742. 365 N Mean SE Mean 95% CI 50 4675 105 (4469, 4881) Conclusion After performing hypothesis testing and confidence intervals on each speculation, we can conclude that from the sample of 50 customers from AJ DAVIS department store, the average (mean) annual income is less than $50,000. We can also conclude that the number of customers that live in urban areas are less than or equal to 40%. The average number of years their customers have lived in their current home is more than 13. Also, the average credit balance for suburban customers is more than $4300. The manager was correct about the speculations of the average income being less than $50,000 and a customers’ credit balance being more than $4,300. For AJ Davis department store to continue a great relationship with their customers, it wise and imperative that they continue to perform analyses of this magnitude. Involvement Of Stakeholders Existing Practiceâ€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Involvement Of Stakeholders Existing Practice? Answer: Introduction With the help of this report information related with the financial reporting as well as financial statements will be shared so as to provide better as well as effective set of information to the organizations. For an organization it is necessary to make an appropriate financial statement because it is essential aspect which helps in providing relevant set of information to the stakeholders available in the market. On the basis of given case study this project report has been prepared on the Sunshine Ltd industry that is a departmental store in which depreciation straight line method is being used. It is assumed after studying the case study that general manager of the organization desires to diminish the past years profit and add it on to the approaching years. This report gives the fair idea about the involvement of stakeholders like immoral practices, governance, ethical behavior and these can make negative impact on the companys stakeholders. Apart from this, some help is to be p rovided to the manager by suggesting recommendation in order to make changes according to the AASB116. Discuss, analyze and research ethics and governance of the above case. Your paper should address the stakeholders, ethics, governance, changing depreciation methods and suggestions for Maria to ensure compliance with the AASB116. Ethics During the decision making process ethics should be considered as principles and moral (DeGeorge , 2014). Ethics is considered as an important element by which right decision is to be made by involving moral values into the decision and influence both external and internal environment of business. It is assumed that activities of an organization should not affect the surrounding environment and society norms and their practices that they are going to use must be fair, incorporated and honest through which nourishment of a society can be done (Eun, 2009). Issue related to ethics As it is given in the case study that issues related to the ethics is to be evaluated through manager and accountant (Fernando, 2012). There are some aspects associated with the professional ethics which must be followed by the employees and professionals of the organization and perform their duties with fairness, integrity and honesty. It is suggested by the general manager of the Sunshine to the accountant Maria that some changes should be implemented into the financial statement of the company and generates fair revenue in the upcoming year (Frankena, (2015). After taking suggestion an accountant of Sunshine Ltd has prepared his mind to make some alteration into the financial statement by shifting the method of depreciation to sum of years digits methods from straight line method. In this situation, ethical issue has been generated that financial statement of Sunshine Company is being altered according to the necessity in which basic accounting guidelines are being unnoticed (Raym an, 2013). Governance Governance is considered as well defined system which establish policies and rules for the organization in order to maintain and manage the practices of business .Some ethical guidelines is to be developed in favor with the stakeholders by which organization can be able to attain its goals without disrupting interests of stakeholders ( Fernando, 2012) Issues of governance Governances task is to focus on the fulfillment of proper guidelines and organizations internal process along with some external rules and laws that are implied by the government (Karapinar, et. al., 2012). It is also discussed that policies and procedures must be followed by the company which is provided by governance. As given in this case study that Sunshine Ltd has not been able to follow up the accounting standard so that can further impact the interest of stakeholders. It is considered to be obligatory to open up with the method of depreciation which is being used within the company and also disclose the reason of changing the depreciation methods or else it will become the issue of governance ( Fernando, 2012) Involvement of stakeholders in the existing practice Stakeholders are considered as the participants who are associated with the organization directly or indirectly (Chapple, 2016). Decisions which are taken within the premises can influence the interest of stakeholder. In the present case, the manger of Sunshine Company has tempered the statement of finance through which they can attract more stakeholders. For attracting stakeholder manger changes the depreciation method by which she can show that her company is making profit consistently (Finch, 2010). It is a wrong practice which is being performed by the manager on ethical basis which can make negative impact on the stakeholders and some are discussed below: Investors They are the unit that can support the business by giving funds for operating activities of an organization. By performing this immoral activity by the manager of tempering the financial statement of an organization showing more profit in comparison with reality can attract more investors. Investors expect higher returns on the basis of companys wrong financial statement but in reality they will get nothing (Rayman, 2013). Government It is mandatory for an organization to imitate all regulations which are prescribed by the government. Sunshine company has shown false profit in its financial statement which is not ethically correct and breaking the rules of accounting standards which is treated as high offence and can influence the image and goodwill of an organization (Arnold, 2013). Management Management is considered as the unit which manages all activities and functions of an organization (Baxamusa, et. al., 2015). According to the recent situation, the decision of the management will also get influenced. By making false presentation of profit in the financial statement management of Sunshine Ltd would make several decisions in respect to execute new business activity and further on this will influence the stakeholder of this company. (Karapinar, Zaif and Torun, 2012 Suppliers Suppliers are considered as the external stakeholder by whom organization can get resources. This situation of showing wrong profit in the statement will attract more suppliers but in reality when suppliers will come in contacts with the company they get to know the reality and they lose trust over company which can generate the issues of liquidity to the company (Baker, et. al., 2013). Customers By taking such great step of showing wrong profit will attract more customers but after sometime the real position of Sunshine Company will be revealed and customers trust over company will be breached. That can further affect the goodwill of the company and no customers can trust them again (Arnold, 2013). Accounting standards compliances Changing of depreciation method Based on the evaluation of the case, to represent consistent and reliable profits in next years financial ledger, the accountant changed the current methodology of depreciation (Bacon, 2010). As per the standard codes of accounting, it is mandatory to furnish the depreciation methodology at first place (Fernando, 2012). It is also mandatory to provide information about depreciation expenses and asymmetrical features about depreciation. The firm Sunshine Limited has been using conventional methodology for fixed assets depreciation calculations (Baker, et. al., 2013). Depreciation charges must be furnished on sufficient assets having vision of financial support for the company. Australian Accounting, Standard 1021 suggests the features associated with the overheads of depreciation of companies. The depreciation methodology, as per the standards, can only be changed or modified categorically in the below circumstances only, If there is a change in the government laws. In this case, based on the directions by the governing bodies, the methodology can be changed or modified. Betterment of the information; i.e. in order to represent the economic statements intuitively and more accurately. The change should also be well explained (Baker and Filbeck, 2013). Any other situation, where the change is required to comply with the existing laws. Here, in the case study of Sunshine Limited, it is observed that there are no lawful reasons for change in methodology of accounting depreciation (Eun, 2009). To comply with the Australian accounting standards 116, below is the suggestion for the accounts officer Maria, As per the Australian accounting standard 116, it is mandatory for the accountant to furnish the information that can affect the stakeholders (Baxamusa, et. al., 2015). Reason being, the stakeholders make their financial decisions after studying the financial statements of the company. It is therefore suggested to the accountant to furnish the transparent information useful for the stakeholders to make right and unbiased decisions. If the information is insufficient and it can affect the interests of the stakeholders, it is not suitable as per accounting ethics (Bacon, 2010) It is also suggested to the accountant to furnish the information about the amount of depreciation levied and the methodology used to furnish the same (DeGeorge , 2014). In addition, it is also mandatory to furnish the details about the reason for change of the methodology. The reason should be valid and should be one from the above stated circumstances. It is suggested to the accountant to furnish the details about the change in the methodology she used. (Finch, 2010) Conclusion It is concluded on the basis of this project report that a financial statement of an organization is act like a face of a company on which basis important decision is to be taken and which shows the companys real and exact position in the market. It is mandatory to all the organizations to imitate the rules and procedure which are provided by the government. Company should perform activity which is right ethically. It is suggested that company should not make alteration into the financial statement as this can breach the trust of their stakeholder. By showing right information helps the organization to attract more stakeholders on trust basis References; DeGeorge , R. T. (2014). Business Ethics. Pearson Educatio. Eun, C. (2009). Key Challenges Best Buy’s decision making processes are slow and ineffective which have made it lack a clear focus in the market. The firm’s was slow to adopt to several market tren ds and this had a negative impact on its growth. The firm did not react to the shift to e-commerce by many businesses, where many financial transactions and business processes were being done through the internet. The firm did not change its workplace policies to allow employees to serve its customers through the internet (Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson 122). Therefore, the inability by its management to change internal work systems made the company lose its competitive edge in the market. Best Buy’s reputation was ruined by leadership scandals involving one of its senior managers. Former C.E.O, Brian Dunn, was accused of having an affair with a female worker in the firm. The scandal shows leadership problems which the firm faces because Dunn, who was entrusted with serious responsibilities in the firm, misused his authority. This unethical practice has contributed negatively to the firm’s stability in the market. The firm made many mistakes when it entered the Chinese market. Its managers did not take note of cultural differences the firm was going to face in this new market environment. The firm’s business strategies were not effective in evaluating differences in consumer behavior between Western countries and Asia. Therefore, firm lost a lot of money because its employees did not use the right approach to sell the firm’s produ cts in the market. The firm’s sales staff in China were paid fixed salaries instead of performance based commissions. This approach was wrong for the firm because it had not yet established itself in the Chinese market. The firm needed to pay its employees flexible wages based on sales each one of them has made to motivate them to perform better. Moreover, the firm’s employees in China had to sell products on fixed price terms without allowing customers to bargain (Griffin and Moorehead 116).This pricing strategy affected the firm’s performance in a market which is well known for its sensitivity to prices. The management’s obsession with results has weakened employee relationships at the workplace. Employees in the firm’s headquarters work in a â€Å"Result Only Work Environment â€Å" (ROWE); a system that values workplace productivity over employee satisfaction. This system has made many employees to get dissatisfied with their workplace duties . This system has made it difficult for employees to get free time to do personal activities away from work. It also makes it difficult for workers to collaborate with each other on crucial work tasks because the system encourages individual results.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Organizational Behavior of Best Buy Electronics specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This system does not encourage cohesion and unity between employees in the firm. The system does not recognize other aspects of employee motivation which contribute positively to the firm’s organizational culture. Recommendations Best Buy needs to institute strong policies to make all employees accountable to the firm and its stockholders. This will make all man agers and employees avoid any form of misconduct that may tarnish the firm’s image and reputation in the market. The firm needs to reform its internal operations to make it well prepared for changes happening in its market environment. Best Buy needs to encourage its employees to use information technology to perform crucial workplace functions. Best Buy needs to study unique attributes of each foreign location it intends to operate in. Before moving to any foreign destination, the firm should take time to understand consumers’ behavior, culture and consumption patterns. Best Buy needs to reform its workplace policies to make all workers feel that they contribute positively to the firm’s progress. Employees need to be encouraged to collaborate with one another to perform crucial workplace duties to create unity and cohesion in the organization (Nelson and Quick 118-120). 3 Cases of Dangling Modifiers

3 Cases of Dangling Modifiers 3 Cases of Dangling Modifiers 3 Cases of Dangling Modifiers By Mark Nichol Each of the following sentences begins with a modifying phrase that is erroneously constructed in such a way that it appears to refer to the subject but does not. A discussion of the problem, and a revision that solves it, follows each example. 1. While not intended to be all-inclusive, the committee recommends that its suggestions be carefully considered as potential opportunities. As written, the modifying phrase implies that the committee is not intended to be all-inclusive, but it is the committee’s suggestions that do not have this intention. To fix the problem, explicitly refer to the suggestions in the modifying phrase: â€Å"While the committee’s suggestions are not intended to be all-inclusive, it recommends that they be carefully considered as potential opportunities.† 2. Like any major movie-franchise arrival, your TV, computer, and any other even tangentially pop culture–related technology will be inundated with publicity about the upcoming Star Trek film. This sentence erroneously compares technological devices to films. This revision restates the comparison as being between â€Å"any major movie-franchise arrival† and â€Å"the upcoming Star Trek film†: â€Å"As is the case with any major movie-franchise arrival, your TV, computer, and any other even tangentially pop culture–related technology will be inundated with publicity about the upcoming Star Trek film.† 3. As a convert to Judaism, I imagine that you are familiar with Jewish teachings on  compassionate speech  as well as the teaching that children are not responsible for sins of their fathers. Here, the writer identifies himself or herself as a convert to Judaism, but the writer’s intent to point out that the reader is the convert. The revision recasts the sentence so that the reference to conversion follows and therefore refers to the third-person pronoun rather than preceding the first-person pronoun and, as a result, implying that the writer is the convert: â€Å"I imagine that you, as a convert to Judaism, are familiar with Jewish teachings on  compassionate speech  as well as the teaching that children are not responsible for sins of their fathers.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Manager and Leader Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Manager and Leader - Research Paper Example They are likable due to their genuine interest in others more than in outcomes (DuBrin, 2010). Managers like doing things right whereas leaders like doing the right things. Managers are competent in following company protocol, enforcing rules, and ensuring employee performance owing to their position in the company. In contrast, leaders lack formal authority. However, their power comes from the natural desire of people to follow them (Ruiz, Ruiz, & Martà nez, 2010). Being a good manager is not necessarily being a good leader and likewise, being a good leader is not necessarily being a good manager. Nevertheless, there exists an overlap between leadership and management skills. Best managers can decide to become more than administrators and become leaders. Similarly, best leaders can decide to become more than visionaries and become managers. Based on the characteristics of a good leader and manager outlined above, I consider myself a good leader and less of a manager. I have a strong conviction of realigning my thought and decisions along the needs and attributes of the people around me. I find my orientation towards paying keen attention to what is done other that how it is as a big feature distinguishing myself as a leader. Nevertheless, the leadership position cannot be complete without management roles. Therefore, it is not possible separate the two aspects since a leader must be good at management as well because appropriate decision affecting people must be founded on the right things as stipulated by established

An analytical paper of the short story summer by Edith Wharton Essay

An analytical paper of the short story summer by Edith Wharton - Essay Example Then she remembered his sudden pause when he had come close to the desk and had his first look at her. The sight had made him forget what he was going to say; she recalled the change in his face, and jumping up she ran over the bare boards to her washstand, found the matches, lit a candle, and lifted it to the square of looking-glass on the white-washed wall. Her small face, usually so darkly pale, glowed like a rose in the faint orb of light, and under her rumpled hair her eyes seemed deeper and larger than by day. Perhaps after all it was a mistake to wish they were blue. A clumsy band and button fastened her unbleached night-gown about the throat. She undid it, freed her thin shoulders, and saw herself a bride in low-necked satin, walking down an aisle with Lucius Harney. He would kiss her as they left the church....She put down the candle and covered her face with her hands as if to imprison the kiss.† (Edith Wharton, Summer, Ch.III) The vocabulary used in the above passage is powerfully suggestive. It explores the two central themes of the novel – ‘different social classes’ and ‘sexual awakening’. "Its no use trying to be anything in this place," – this line only echoes the sexual repression of her times. The arrival of Lucius Harney had evoked in her, a sense of being ‘the other’. She now, more than ever, began to feel the burden of her improper lineage. It aroused in her – both, a sense of shame and a sense of envy. Despite her lower social ranking, she increasingly seems to become aware of her growing desires. This passage traces the beginning of Charity’s awakening to a new sense of self. The simile, â€Å"glowed like a rose† is provocative in implication. She experiences a growing passion when she â€Å"freed her thin shoulders†. The imagery used in these lines boldly shows how liberating and satisfying awareness of sexuality can be. This physical awakening heralds her

Choose one from the instruction Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Choose one from the instruction - Research Paper Example The two cases constitute to intentional or negligence cases. There are other cases where the person causing damage remains liable to the victim regardless of whether they intended to cause harm. These constitute to strict liability cases. A country’s court has many cases to handle ranging from criminal cases to civil cases, among many others. Among the many cases the court handles are tort cases. The court seeks to administer justice to those involved through compensation as well as they look for ways of deterring further occurrence of torts (Best and David 8). Sometimes, compensation for losses incurred becomes the core function of tort law, and contributes to its development. Although the primary function of tort law can be described as the need to determine the required compensation. However, prevention and punishment measures too are important factors that help prevent further tort cases. This is because as the court looks for compensation of the injured, it also looks to send a warning to the offender. When a court makes its decisions on the case and defendants understand they may have liability in the case, it may act as a deterrent measure on further tort cases. However, research shows that goals of compensation and deterrence of future damage may differ in some cases as the court may favor one side than the other (Best and David 8). When courts in the U.S started undertaking tort cases, they considered compensation and deterrence as the main goals of concern. However, compensation became easier to perceive than deterrence and courts expanded tort law focusing on compensation. Later, economic hardships that hit the country largely affected the court's decision to follow compensation (Best and David 9). Impact of legal issues on economy Economic analysis of... The social cost incurred from the accident is the cumulative precaution and the cost of the expected accident, and becomes what the society is liable for. Economically, for the society to reduce the costs of an accident they should take a precaution that lies in between two extremes; the cost of the precaution itself and the cost of the expected accident (Mattiacci 5).The in-between precaution is the optimal care the society takes because it reduces the cost of the precaution and the expected accident cost thus minimizing the social cost. Therefore, decisions made by the tort law system should ensure that the incentives they give to the injurer to avoid the accident should enable them take an in-between precaution. The legal issues existing in tort law systems include giving parties incentives to acquire information on the accident occurrence. The court authority should ensure that incentives given for accessing information about the accident should not constrain the economy. This in one way relieves the country economic pressures. To minimize spending on risks, the tort law system should ensure a most favorable allocation of risks between the injurer and the victim, and it can only achieve this goal through insurance (Shavell 188). On the side of the transaction costs, the tort system’s goal is to minimize the administrative costs that result from the system’s attorney’s and magistrate’s payment. However there is conflict between the distinction on allocations of incentives towards the prevention or precautions taken or compensation for the accident. Acquiring equilibrium between the injurer and the victim will help achieve the social goal of compensation and deterrence and minimize cost on economy.

Analyze the Learner

Analyze the Learner Analyze the Learner General characteristics: I attend the Hac Ãâ€"mer Tarman Anatolian high school in class 11-FC. There are 27 students, 16 of them are boy the remains are girl. Although their learning abilities are nearly the same because they took the same exam before enter this school, they have some differences in their cognitive levels. So from time to time I have to use different methods to attract their attention. Students socioeconomic levels are different and this affects their achievement. Because students that have low economic status could not get private lessons. In addition that while giving research project I realized their economic conditions. Students are aware of the importance of lecture because they know the university entrance exam are very important for their future life so they do not miss any single hour. Entry competencies: In order to understand the whether the students have necessary prerequisites and knowledge I will make a pretest to understand these. For example before starting acid base concept students should know some concepts from 9th class. These can be * Matter * Nomenclature of compound * Chemical reactions and calculations * Mole concept * Solutions and molarity And also for achieving these concepts they ought to have these skills mentioned below. * Reading and writing skills * Problem solving skills * Analytical and critical thinking skills * Manipulating laboratory equipment skill * Problem solving skills Learning styles: Students have different multiple intelligences so during the lecture as a instructor I should use different methods in order to motivate the learners. So they can easily the topic. It can be seen that in secondary school students are bored if the teacher use traditional method. However if they use different methods such as demonstration, role play, cooperative learning, they can understand easily, because the concepts are taught in a different manner. In addition to that giving examples from daily lives also increase students attention .but most of the teacher us lecturing method to complete the curriculum on time. But according tro me understand the topic is more important to complete the topic. So I will use analogy to teach the complex topic in an easy way and also make a demonstration so that students can easily realize what is going on, because of this reason I will prepare a video that is related to the chemistry experiment. And I will give daily life examples so students realized that chemistry is related to our life therefore they are willing to my lecture. State Objectives: The topic is in the K-10 curriculum. There are some requirements for the instruction. These include the previous knowledge from 9th grade level. At the end of the lesson 10th grade students will be able to have the following objectives. Ø General objective : Students understand the definition of acid and bases o Behavioral objectives:  § To know the meaning of acids and bases  § Describe Arrhenius acid base definition  § Describe Bronsted acid base definition  § Describe Lewis acid base definition  § To know the differences between acid base definitions Ø General objective : Students predict the use of acid and bases in daily life o Behavioral objectives:  § To give examples for acids and bases from daily life  § To distinguish the properties of acids and bases  § To explain the properties of acids and bases Ø General objective : To describe and explain the acid-base reactions and pH range o Behavioral objectives:  § To predict the products of the acid-base reactions  § To identify the acid-base strengths of the substances according to their pH range  § To write neutralization reaction Select Modify Design Instructional Methods, Media, and Materials: During the instruction students attention is the most important factor. Because of this I should use not only lecturing but also demonstrations, analogy, and questioning methods. Also students needs and interest also determines the method that I have to use. Because of these I will use videos and power point slides very often. Since students can easily understand if they can see what is going on and where the subject is used in dial life. Because of these facts I will start my lecture asking questions to motivate the students to think and giving examples, making analogies and watching videos, we will try to find the answers with class by using inquiry. Then with the help of these activities I will mention the definitions and we will discuss daily life usages with class. After that some problems are solved. At the end pf this unit I will give a handout that contains the important things about these topics and we make a discussion on them. After these I will make a mini quiz that shoes the feedback of students information Using media and materials: Preview the materials: Before lesson I will be sure that the technological devices and chemicals are present at school. Then I will check the videos and my slides if they are suitable for my students and my objectives. In addition to that I will check my handouts that are adequate for all class and I also control my recalling notes. Prepare the materials: I will prepare effective slides an videos in order to attract students attention because they use technology and they like to use technology that is why I will use different technological equipments during my lecture. In addition to that I will prepare set ups for demonstrations. Also I will make several questions that will be asked during the lecture. And if I have an extra time I will solve them. Finally I will copy the handouts for students in order to summarize what I teach them in the lesson. Prepare the environment: Classroom environment is very important factor for students achievement. I mostly concentrate on the air of the class. It should be fresh and heating system should work regularly and have an ideal temperature. The students desks should be arranged U shape so they can see slides and my demonstrations easily Prepare the Learners: At the beginning of the lecture I will summarizes the last lecture then I started my topic with a question. After that I started to my topic with a challenging question. Next, I will give brief information about what we will study and our method. During the lecture I will ask questions for brain storming and I will make them to participate the lecture so they can learn easily the subject. Provide the Learning Experience: I start my lesson with to show the chemicals and ask their opinion about them. Then I make them watch the video and at the end of the video I will ask the main differences between acid and base. After students are able to motivate, I will teach my topic by using demonstrations and questions. I should talk according to level and a do not use long sentences. So students can not lose attention. And also I know the importance of gesture and eye contact. During the lecture I will walk in the class so that they can not sleep or doing irrelevant things related to the lecture Require Learner Participation: For an effective lesson, students participation is very important so I will ask questions during the lesson in order to increase their attention to lesson and I will us inquiry method that I will not directly give the subject. But I will help them to find the statements by themselves. Moreover I encourage them to ask questions related to lecture so they can learn easily. After watching videos I will apply group work activity to discuss the video and trying to find what they have learned and observed. At the end we will make a concept map so students can understand the relationship between the subjects easily. Evaluate and Revise: Evaluate Students Performance: Before the lecture day I will give them pretests by looking of the results I van understand their previous knowledge and their cognitive level so that I will prepare my lectures according to this. For example I can decide the most efficient method and by knowing their prerequisite knowledge I can design the topical outline according to them furthermore since I know their limitations, I can concentrate on more during the lecture. At the end of the lecture I will give posttest so I will gain information what they have learned and by looking their classroom activity and their answers to my questions also a guide for their knowledge. With the help of these I can easily recognize whether they can understand the lecture and achieved the objectives. So these feedbacks are very useful for me because I will not only gain their knowledge but also understand whether my lecture is useful Evaluate Media Components: In order to determine the media effectiveness I will prepare an questionnaire to the students that can write their all emotions during the lecture, students do not write their names so students can write their feeling easily. Therefore I can rearrange my activity if they have any limitations or not. And so if it has limitations I will rearrange them in an effective way. Evaluate instructor performance: While I am evaluating students performance, I will also evaluate my own performance. If the results of these are good enough, I can accept that my performance is fine. But it this is not the case actually because I should be analyzed by other teachers and also the questionnaire results give information about the effectiveness of my teaching style. Advantages of Assure Model Ó Choosing method easy for using the learning process. Ó giving teachers opportunities to use new media and technology in their lessons Ó Being enjoyable and attractive for not only students but also teachers. Ó Be used technological devices for the lecturing by teacher. Ó Provides variety of different activities and make lesson more enjoyable Disadvantages of the Assure Model Ó Only one topic can be learn by using assure model. Other topics cannot mention. Ó Although many schools do not have technological devices, they are required in this model. Ó Preparation takes long time; therefore, it is time consuming. Ó It is expensive compared to the only lecturing method. Reflection While preparing this homework I realized that using assure model has so many advantages and increase the education level. But unfortunately most of the teachers do not use this model because their programs are too loaded and their classes are very crowded. So application of this model in turkey is difficult because it is more expensive than normal but advantages of this model camouflage these limitations Furthermore, applying assure model is very important. Because with the help of this model our students do not have to memorize everything and they can understand their lecture easily. But as I mentioned before I could not use this method every lecture because of the lack of time. if our ministry of education suggest a solution for poor and crowded schools and decrease the density of the curriculum I will be use this model usually. Moreover, I have some difficulty about how to prepare an activity by using assure model so I wrote the important steps of assure model and I explained when I will use assure model by noticing the importance of stages.

Behind the Arch: The Truth about Drinking at Buena Vista University :: Journalism Alcohol Drinking College Essays

Behind the Arch: The Truth about Drinking at Buena Vista University Behind the Arch: The Truth about Drinking at Buena Vista University, is book with written stories and events relating to drinking on the campus of Buena Vista University (BVU). Behind the Arch is published by the English 300 class of 2001, including students Chris Allen, Alisa Dixson, Jennifer Durham, Shelley Katzer, Max Kenkel, Teri Kramer, Toby Malavong, and Courtney Weller. Many questions came up about the alcohol use among the BVU students and community. This book is a great source for BVU because it shows causes relating to its effects of drinking on and off campus. These students reflect on their past experiences and explain what incoming freshmen students may expect in a college setting. Also, upperclassmen share their experiences in this book explaining what to expect as the years pass. High school students always look forward to the college life and surroundings. Most cannot wait until they are free from their parents and free to do whatever they want. As incoming freshmen attend Buena Vista University, many are afraid of what to expect. Talking from my own personal experiences, college is coming easy to me so far. From talking with other students, life is tough for them. As I have talked to other students, the problem is not so much the school work, but it is the social life. Many are afraid of what to expect. Many feel drinking may solve their problems because it may help them associate with others easier. This is where the drinking problem on the BVU campus begins. Here at BVU, party nights usually fall on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. This is because the local bars such as Puff’s and Malarky’s have specials on drinking. The biggest night most students talk about is nickel pitchers, which falls on Wednesday nights. If a student is of legal age of 21, they are able to purchase as many pitchers of beer for only five cents apiece. I think this is where most of the problems start. Many students drink even before they go to the bar, then when they get to the bar, they consume so much alcohol to get drunk. Most people know a nickel pitcher is a great deal, which is why a huge percent of students go party on Wednesday nights.

Siren Song

In â€Å"Homer’s Odyssey† and â€Å"Siren Song† both show the weaknesses of human beings. Also it reveals humans find something so enticing that they are incapable of withstanding it. In â€Å"Homer’s Odyssey† Homer creates an illusion that the sirens are dangerous creatures, unlike Atwood’s poem, â€Å"Siren Song. † Atwood’s poem however shows a desperation coming from the sirens. In â€Å"Homer’s Odyssey† the poem is told from Odysseus point of view. He portrays the Sirens as mysterious and luring.Circes advises Odysseus that the Sirens â€Å"spellbind any man alive, whoever comes their way. † Gaining this knowledge, Odysseus made his sailors plug their ears with beeswax so they would avoid hearing the thrilling songs of the Sirens. Odysseus was determined to hear the beautiful songs of the Sirens, even though he was aware of the consequences. This reveals mans selfishness by having Odysseus do whatever it takes to hear the song. Odysseus orders his men to tie him down on the mast to ensure his survival.Odysseus hears the Siren's song and starts to react to it, his men â€Å"flung themselves to the oars† and â€Å"sprung up at once to bind him faster with ropes. † This shows how inciting the sirens were to men. In â€Å"Homer’s Odyssey† a man’s perceptive is shown, and describes how temptation will always be a part of life. Unlike â€Å"Homer’s Odyssey†, Atwood’s poem â€Å"Siren Song† is told from the Sirens point of view. The sirens are portrayed as irresistible creatures that cause men to completely lose all self control. One of the Sirens states â€Å"I don’t enjoy it here,† in â€Å"Homer’s Odyssey† all the sirens seem to be fond of singing their admirable songs. In Atwood’s poem a Siren is begging for help; â€Å"Help me, only you can. † Unfortunately no one can help because once the music of the Sirens touches the ear; they succumb to the power of the Sirens. The Sirens have a certain desperation to be set free from their unpleasant life on the island. â€Å"Will you get me out of this bird suit? † shows that the Sirens in Atwood’s poem have identities, opposite of â€Å"Homer’s Odyssey†.There is no information in The Odyssey that infers that the sirens have an identity. In both poems the Sirens voices show an irresistible lure to men. The reasons that the Sirens sings differ from each poem. In† Homer’s Odyssey,† Odysseus feels like they are targeting him, however in Atwood’s poem the Sirens are simply singing for themselves. The Sirens seem sympatric to the men who jump overboard, yet unable to stop themselves from calling the men to their island. The poems â€Å"Homer’s Odyssey† and â€Å"Siren Song† have many similarities in how the Sirens are portrayed but at the same time th ey differ in many different aspects of the poems. The â€Å"Sirens Song† Sirens use the men’s own natural curiosity to bring the men to them. The â€Å"Odyssey† Sirens use enchantment and the promise of passion to get the men to come. Either way, the Sirens reveal how tricky and clever they are with their magical songs. Nevertheless, the Sirens could just be trying to torment men for their own entertainment or they could be trying to reach out for help.

Economic Globalization Essay

Economic globalisation is a concept that has become common in the recent times and it is popularity is growing overtime. It virtually implies the process by which two or more countries economically integrate with an aim of enabling a global marketplace or in other words creating a global single market (Fung, 2006, pp 1). The main purpose for economic integration is to enable the expansion of the market, that is, corporations are enabled to operate beyond the borders of their country of origin. The concept of economic globalization can be perceived to posses both positives and negatives depending on the context over which is being analyzed from (Gardner, 2005, pp 67) The concept of economic globalization can be traced back to the ancient days during the trans-national trade period, which is several thousand years ago. The process of economic globalization is in control of the world trade organisation that provide rules that need to be followed in enhancing effective trade interactions between various countries of the world (Stalker, 1998, pp3),. The main goal of the WTO is to enable the producers of goods and services, the exporters of the goods and the importers of goods to conduct their business with much easy. The rules are based on the agreements that are set among the trading nations, where the agreements are expected to be ratified by the parliament of respective nations (Gu, 2006, pp 157). The WTO membership is currently 153 world countries with also a number of observers. The admission date into the organization of various nations vary from one country to other as it is a voluntary participation. For example, China joined the organization on 11 December 2001 (Peerenboom, 2007, pp 145). This proposal is based on carrying a research concerning the effects of Economic globalization and China’s accession to WTO on domestic companies. The proposal starts at first providing the background information concerning economic globalization in china and its effect on the Chinese Economy. The research questions and objectives are then provided, the scope of the study and the significance of the study as the part of introduction. Literature review will then follow methodology and lastly the time plan. The research will use the Shenzhen Energy Corporation in China as one of the China’s domestic energy enterprises in analyzing the effects of economic globalization on domestic companies and the response of these companies to the competition that arises from economic globalization in ensuring market sustainability. 1. 1 Background Economic globalisation is perceived to have enhanced China to attain an accelerated economic growth following the expansion of its market size, which enables the country to produce more following the increased demand for their products and services (Kotler, 2005, pp 37). The country is perceived to be benefiting from the global market in a reasonable manner following the country’s comparative advantage of cheap labour (Lu, 2003, pp 567). The cheap labour is enhanced through the high population of the country that implies abundant supply of labour (Prigoff, 1999, pp 89). This situation provides the country with a competitive advantage in the world market on the reason that its products are likely to bear a low price compared to the ones of their competitors who experiences high costs of production (Allan, 2004, pp 17). Following the encouraging of economic globalization by China becoming a member of WTO, the volume of foreign investments grew in China that were likely to compete with the local producers of goods and services (Hopper, 2006, pp 297). Shenzhen Energy is one of the domestic companies that felt the impact of the foreign investment competition and responded to it accordingly in enabling market sustainability. Shenzhen Energy Corporation was established through a fund raising in 1993 on it being approved by the people’s government office in the city of Shenzhen. The company was listed in the Shenzhen stock exchange market in September 1993, and it was the first large shareholding enterprise in the national electric powers to be listed in the stock market. The company was also the first public service stock company to be listed in the Shenzhen stock market (http://www. sec. com. cn/en/about/index. aspx? ModuleNo=080102 ). The company is controlled by the shareholder, Shenzhen Energy group company that was founded in 1993 as a state owned power company. The controlling company had been growing rapidly in proportionate to the economic growth of Shenzhen economy. The scope of business for the company is to develop, produce, purchase and market the various convectional energies and new energies within China. The company engages in investments and carries operations that are meant to enhance development. It participates in the transporting raw materials that are energy related and also involves itself in port, dock and storage industry. The company has investments and operations that are related to energy in the land industry, real estate industry and also the leasing industry. The company’s investments and operations are also extended to high technology industries that are meant to improve the efficiency in the utilization of energy. The company’s operations go beyond the border of China, that is, it involves in the import and the export of various goods. The goods that are exported and imported by the company include the set of equipment, supporting equipment, machines tools and also the vehicles that are to be used in energy projects. The company is also engaged in providing services that are related to the energy industry that include the designing, construction, management and providing the day to day operating services to energy projects. The company also provides service that includes staff training, consultation among other services that are mean to enable improved performance of the human resources in the energy industry and the making of informed decisions. The participation in developing environmental protection technology is a task that is carried by the company following the pollution claims that are raised concerning the consumption of energy. From the accounting reporting of the company’s performance in 2007, the company had a total asset base worth 24. 5 billion Yuan. The larger proportion of the company’s market is based in Shenzhen where it also hold majority of the share value of the plants. Its operations are mainly concentrated in Shenzhen and its surrounding. Some of these plants in which it holds shares include Shenzhen Mawan General Plant, Shenzhen Yuelianngwan Power plant, Dongguan Zhangyang Power Plant, Huizhou Fengda Power Plant, Guangdong heyuan Power Plant, and Ghana Combustion Engine Power Plant. The last two plants as provided in the list above are under construction. The company’s performance as been desirable overtime. Shenzhen Energy Corporation has consistently been awarded various tittles that include outstanding enterprise, Advanced party committee and the law abiding tax payer. Therefore, Shenzhen energy Corporation can be perceived as being a local company in China that is likely to be affected by the foreign investors in china in the energy industry as a result of economic globalization. 1. 2 Problem Statement Following the participation of China in the economic globalization as an avenue over which economic growth can be enhanced and the China’s accession to WTO can be perceived to have posed some effects on the domestic companies in China. The effect on the domestic companies arises from fact that a number of foreign companies are likely to be established in China to compete with the domestic companies. The competition between the domestic and the foreign companies in a given industry imply that the market for some industry is likely to be divided among the competitors with respect to their competitive advantages. The companies that produce their goods and services within the market standards and price will stand a better chance of taking a larger marker share compared to the companies that are less competent. In the wake for economic globalization and China’s accession to WTO, there has been quite a large inflow of foreign companies into the Chinese economy. The energy industry has not been the exemption. A large number of power enterprises have been flowing into the economy, and they are characterized by having a large capital base, they are of high technology and possess management efficiency. These characteristics enable these foreign power enterprises to compete favorably with the domestic power enterprises like Shenzhen power corporation. The competition has been tight between the domestic power enterprises and the foreign power enterprises that require respective enterprises to undertake some strategies in enabling them to survive in the market. Shenzhen power corporation has not been an exemption in the competition that is posed by both foreign power enterprises and the local enterprises. The corporation has been thriving despite the increased and tight competition in the energy industry. Therefore, the aim of the study is to bring the strategies that have been taken by Shenzhen power corporation in enhancing the capability of being influential and profitable in the energy industry that seem to be flooded by the foreign power enterprises that have a large capital base, operate with high technology and posses effective management skills. 1. 3 Research questions The main research question of the study is to explain the marketing strategies that have been taken by Shenzhen power corporation in enhancing market sustainability in an industry that is dominated by foreign power enterprises. The questions to be answered in the reach for answering the main question include; i. How does the corporation gather information that is meant to aid in designing marketing strategies? ii. What are the company’s target groups? iii. How does the company do its pricing? iv. To what level is customer satisfaction used as a marketing strategy? v. The nature of public relation of the corporation? 1. 4 Research objectives The main objective of the study is to establish the kind of marketing strategies that have been undertaken by Shenzhen power corporation in enabling market sustainability in foreign enterprises dominated industry. The auxiliary objectives that will enable to attain the main objective of the study include i. Identify the various means in which the corporations gather information that is used in designing marketing strategies ii. Identify the target groups for the company’s products and services. iii. Identify the criteria that the company uses to set its prices in ensuring effective price setting. iv. Establish the level of customer satisfaction by the corporations v. Establish the nature of the products and services provided by the corporation to the market and their uniqueness compared to the products of the competitors. 1. 5 Scope of the study The study will be based on the looking at the practices adapted by Shenzhen power corporation in relation to the attempt of the corporation to ensure market sustainability in tight competition offered by the foreign power enterprises that are characterized by a large capital base, operate with the application of high technology, and inherent with effective management. Therefore, the study is meant to address the responses from Shenzhen power corporation following the tight competition in the industry that enable the company to thrive in the industry. 1. 6 Significance of the study The significance of the study follows from the argument that economic globalization is certain to disadvantage the domestic industries, that will have an adverse impact of retarding economic growth. Following the economic globalization of China and the example of Shenzhen power corporation, the above statement seem to be invalid because Shenzhen power corporation is still profitable regardless of the economic globalization as a China’s domestic company. This implies that, there are lessons that are to be learnt from the practices of Shenzhen power corporation following its enhanced market sustainability. The lessons will be applied by other corporations that associate their failure to the concept to economic globalization. 1. 7 Hypothesis of the study The hypothesis of the study is that domestic companies are not affected negatively by economic globalization, but it is their economic inefficiency that makes them incompetent in competing with the foreign companies. Therefore, the companies’ poor performance after economic globalization is not as a result of the many competitors, it is because of their inefficiency that makes them less competitive. Competitive advantage is earned by designing relevant strategies and not by reducing the number of competitor. Competition is required in the economy in avoiding the excesses that are associated with the monopolies, because the inefficient companies are certain to exit the market due to their inability to compete favorable. Therefore, competition is likely to ensure efficient utilization of resources in meeting the needs of the society. Domestic companies should thus design strategies that are meant to enable them withstand the competition in the market, and that will also promote efficient utilization of the national wealth in meeting the needs of the society. 2. 0 Literature Review 2. 1 Gathering information for strategy designing On ensuring effective strategy designing, an organization is required to gather information that is meant to be used as a tool for strategy designing. This act is meant to eliminate the act of designing strategies arbitrary as it posses the possibility of the strategies becoming irrelevant. Therefore, an organisation requires to lay some measures in ensuring that information that is available and to be used for designing strategy is representational of the real market situation, otherwise the expected results from the strategies will never be realized (Hiebing, 2004, pp 2). The source for information that will be useful for designing the strategies varies in relation to the nature of the industry, the operations of organisation and purpose to which the information will be put into. For example gathering information that is meant to be used in designing the marketing strategies, an organisation is required to get the information concerning the market condition (Boone, 2005, pp 37) The information concerning the market condition may include the desires of the customers, the market price of some products as provided by the demand and the supply forces, and practices of competitors. The right source for information that is to be used in designing marketing strategies should be obtained from the various agencies of the organisation who interact with the customers, because they are the ones who are accessible to the customers, hence likely to understand the customer desires than the managers who are responsible of administration related matters (Cundiff, 2007, pp 48) On ensuring effective designing of strategies that are meant to improve the organisation’s competence, an organisation is supposed to base its redesigning using the past experience. This will enable an organization to avoid the possibility of repeating the errors that were committed in the previous designs (Bradley, 2005, pp231) 2. 2 Pricing. The pricing mechanism normally depends on the nature of the market structure. A market structure can either be a monopoly, an oligopoly or a competitive market (Gummesson, 2002, pp 137) Price setting in each market structure vary depending characteristics in each market. For example, in the competitive market, every firm in the market is a price taker. They are price takers on the reason that none of the firms can determine the price in the, otherwise the price in the market is influenced by the price mechanism. In a monopoly market, a firm has the powers to determine the price of its goods through the controlling of the supply (Luck, 1985, pp 132). For a firm to survive in the competitive market, the firm is expected to sell at the market price as provided by the market mechanism, otherwise its products are likely to experience a low demand compared to the products of the competitors (Adcock, 2001, pp 102). This follows from the demand law, that explains that when the price of a good increases, the demand of the good is likely to decline. The decline of the demand follows from the consumer either switching to the consumption of a substitute good that will benefit a competitor or reduce the consumption of the good due to the budget constraint (Hisrich, 2000, pp 112) In the competitive market, a firm that is likely to produce its goods and services at the lowest costs is the one that is likely to earn a competitive advantage over the other competitors in the industry. This follows from the fact that the production of goods with low costs will have an impact of increasing the profit margin of the company when selling the goods at the market price (Kotler, 1988, pp 199). This will also enable the firm to compete favorably in the price war in enhancing the demand of the its products, because the company will be able to realize the desired profits level even when selling the goods at the price below the market price (Gualtianan, 1995, pp 89). A firm will only attain the low costs of production if it produces the goods with a lot of efficiency in avoiding waste, that is, the firm should enhance optimal allocation and utilization of the resources in attaining an optimal amount of output at a given the specific level of technology. Organizations can enhance the efficient utilization of the resources by adaptation the various practices that are meant to optimally utilize the resources that include human resource development and the adaptation of the appropriate technology that is certain to enable efficient utilization of the resources owned by a firm (Webster, 1995, pp 47) 2. 3 Customer Satisfaction. Customer satisfaction plays an important role in creating consumer loyalties. The creating of loyalties will rescue the firm from incurring a lot of expenses in advertisement on the look for customers (Davenport, 2001, pp 69). The created consumer loyalty will retain the customers, as they are likely to consume the products of the company in the future. Therefore, it can be perceived as an investment that is meant to benefit the firm to realize the flow of income in the future following the enhanced loyalty. Consumer loyalty is maintained by the firm providing high standard goods to their customers and listening to the desires of the customers, otherwise, the firm is certain to loose the already created loyalties in the future if it does not meet the desires of the customers. The firm is also required to engage in product innovations overtime that are supposed to improve the quality of the products in factoring in the desires of the customers (Hutt, 1981, pp 201). This will reinforce the existing loyalties and also create other more loyalties that are certain to ensure the future demand for the products and services provided by the firm. There normally exist variations in the desires of the customers, implying that the providing of standardized services and products to customers is certain to satisfy the customers in varied ways. In such a situation, a firm is required to either provide a wide range of products that is meant to meet the varied desires or provide customized products and services that are meant to improve the level of customer satisfaction. The advantage for creating customer loyalties through customer satisfaction is that the firm is likely to reduce the costs in advertisement and other promotions because the customers that are retained are aware of the operations of the firm and its operations (Godin, 1999, pp 32). This will enable the company to reduce its cost of operation that will be reflected as an increased marginal profits, hence a positive step towards profit maximization. 2. 4 Product differentiation and patenting. Product differentiation can be perceived as being a strategy that is meant to make the products of some firm unique compared to the products that are offered by the competitors. It will enable the customers to identify the products easily without mistaking it for the ones offered by the competitors. Differentiation may include the adding of some features to the products offered to the market that is meant to sway the customers in enhancing high demand. The differentiations that make the product unique can be copyrighted to avoid the competitors from imitating the design of the product (Sandshoes, 2000, pp43). The patents will bar the competitors from imitating the products, thus a marketing strategy that is meant to enable the firm to minimize competition. 3. 0 Methodology 3. 1 Design The research will involve the collection of information concerning the organisation in question, evaluate its performance over time, and mostly by focusing at its profitability over time in relation to the various strategies that were taken by the organisation to enhance the performance. 5 Simple Job Search Tips People Forget

5 Simple Job Search Tips People Forget It’s easy to forget how to look for a new job when you already have one. Here are a few strategies for staying sharp when trying to change careers. 1. Show Your StuffMaybe you’re looking to branch out into another field. Your unique qualifications make you a strong candidate, and you know you can do this kind of work. The hiring manager doesn’t. And maybe, given your current position, you don’t look as strong as other candidates might on paper. Here’s where you beef up the relevant experience section of your resume and tailor a brand-new cover letter to the new position you are seeking, playing up all the reasons you may be a slightly unorthodox choice, but the best one for the job.2. Get Off The PageThe best way to get your resume in front of people is to get yourself in front of people. Most positions are filled on recommendation. So start utilizing your network to get you in the door. Hit up your LinkedIn and Meetup contacts and start making the connections you’ll need to get hired in your new field.3. Be SpecificYour friends and colleagues will obviously want to help. Rather than tell everyone you’re looking for a new job, why not tell them precisely what kind of position you are after, or what kind of company? Give a detailed description of what you’re looking for. You’ll get better help and will be more respectful of your connections’ time.4. Don’t Be DesperateOmit the words â€Å"I’ll take anything!† from your vocabulary. If you don’t have a very specific position in mind, do a bit of work to ballpark your dream next move. You’ll have a lot more luck getting help from friends, and you’ll be much more successful when up against the hiring manager- who, after all, wants you to be genuinely enthusiastic.5. Chin UpKeep your spirits and your confidence up. And when in doubt- fake it until you make it. A positive attitude is the necessary flourish to a successful job search strategy; it will keep you sane, ambitious, and attractive to potential employers.

Strategic management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 2

Strategic management - Essay Example They are accountable for the success of the organization. For instance, managers offer objectives and vision of the managerial goal, and plan to execute the goals. Strategic managers are also in charge of plans and policies of an organization (Expansion Management, 2009). Any organization should have the strategic management branch, which sets up mission for the company. Managerial activity encompasses information about the organization and functioning. Strategic management is a particularly crucial responsibility accomplished mostly by a single individual, and in most cases, the future success of an organization depends on the strategic management. The strategic management process is based on the transformation of working process of where the organization is at presently, and where it wants to be after some time. Transformation process is based on the people within the business, and should be by two way process where every person in the business is involved in executing the set goal s and objectives (Samsung, 2009). Samsung Electronics is a multinational electronics company in South Korea with its headquarters at Suwon. The company is a flagship subsidiary of the Samsung group, which forms the largest information technology company in the world with the highest revenue. The company was established in 1969 for manufacturing of black and white television sets, 5-business decisions, and Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM). Samsung electronics has sales network and assembly plants in 61 countries worldwide with 221,000 employees. The company forms the largest mobile phone company in the world by unit sales in 2011. The company has the highest world market share in memory chip and has an established position in the tablet market (Samsung, 2009). Strategic management in Samsung Electronics The past few years in Samsung Electronics have been an immense advancement with different technologies taking the limelight like the liquid crystal display over cathode ray tube (C hiu et al. 2006, p. 143-165). In this paper, the strategies employed the liquid crystal display (LCD) and the dynamic random access memory (DRAM) are analyzed (Samsung, 2009). Samsung Electronics in LCD market Lee Kun-hee changed the strategy in Samsung group in 1993 from the imitating cost-leader to differentiator role through concentrating and downsizing the engineering, electronics and chemical industries. In 1995, the company had already developed the LCD technology and achieved considerable market. Since then, the company has achieved a flagship with the revenues increasing consistently over the years. The company has the highest global share in LCD (Moon, 2009). The strategic management in LCD is applicable to both internal and external environments, which are further subdivided into sections. Confederates in the Attic Book Analysis Term Paper

Confederates in the Attic Book Analysis - Term Paper Example He recalls his efforts for research, some bitter-sweet memories, the threat of physical violence and camaraderie he experienced, all for the sake of writing a good book with accurate historical details. Recollection of the past events is not always sweet, even when the present states of affairs are sound. For an individual, for an institution, for a race, for a language group and for the Nation as a whole, the original questions will always remain as the original questions with slight modifications here and there! During his extensive travel, Horwitz realized how sharply the viewpoints of the people were divided, over the fundamental issues, though taking into consideration the provisions of the Constitution, every citizen of America, was granted equal rights and continues to enjoy them. Tony Horwitz points out how a small initiative, even if it well-intentioned, has the potentiality of ending up in major conflagration and the pet up feelings of different sections of the people have chances of snowballing into a conflagration. He (1999, p.6) cites the example, â€Å"the Walt Disney Company unveiled plans for a Civil War theme park beside the Manassas battlefield. This provoked howls of protest that Disney would vulgarize history and sully the nation’s â€Å"hallowed ground.†It seemed as though the black-and-white photographs I’d studied as a child has blurred together, forming a Rorschach blot in which Americans now saw all sorts of unresolved strife; over race, sovereignty, the sanctity of historic landscapes, and who should interpret the past.† His interactions with the actors (people) in the re-enacting circles revealed their mind-sets and thinking processes and some humorous situations. About his impression of a bloated corpse Horwitz writes, ''His belly swelled grotesquely, his hands curled, his cheeks puffed out, his mouth contorted in a rectus of pain and astonishment. It was a flawless counterfeit of the bloated corpses photo graphed at Antietam and Gettysburg that I'd so often stared at as a child.'' (p.7) What he wondered and took note off was the seriousness with which each actor acted, not with the sense of professional integrity alone, but to give vent to their feelings of personal loyalties and convictions. In the course of his trek, Horwitz comes across highly interesting personalities, which one cannot imagine even in the fictional dreams and it provides rare insights into the minds of the personalities. Besides such encounters and experiences are invaluable addition from the perspectives of sociology and human psychology. My impressions about the text: This is an invaluable book that provides insight into the working of the minds of common individuals as for the issues confronting the Nation today. By passing laws on equality and by securing the freedom of individuals through legislations, nothing tangible will be achieved. No legislation can change the color of the skin, and this is the issue, that boggles those who have concern for the welfare of the Nation, nay the ultimate good the humankind. The most dismaying trend Horwitz finds is the resurgence of anti-Federal hostility and racial separatism and I agree with the author one hundred percent about his genuine concern. This is a historical issue for which extraordinary efforts are needed at all levels like politics, economics, sociology and even religious and spiritual values of the Nation. The politicians of different parties have so far

PEECLAMPSIA Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

PEECLAMPSIA - Term Paper Example The readings have to be at least above 90 for diastolic pressure and more than 140 for systolic pressure for a confirmation of the condition to be made. The HBP readings should at least be accompanied by a confirmatory test of 300 milligrams of protein in urine. As the condition gains severity other symptoms and signs may manifest, and the pressure may reach 160/100. According to evidence based practice these indications do not automatically guarantee the existence of the condition and a measure on platelets has been proposed as a more effective measure (Ekiz et al., 2011). MPV count, which is a platelet measure in predicting the occurrence of preeclampsia is an aspect under debate. This can be seen in the work of Dadeszen who said that the platelet ratio in MPV is more sensitive compared to MPV alone for predicting the adverse maternal outcome related to preeclampsia (Von Dadelszen et al., 2004, p 871-879). Dundar et.al, on the other hand, shows that MPV increases during pregnancy, but is highly prominent during preeclampsia development (Dundar et al., 2008, p 1052-6). As such, MPV provides a good diagnosis tool for the condition. The evidence-based proposal on diagnostics thus implies that MPV is a better measure. This is also cited as a better measure of the condition’s progression-a thing that the other diagnostic measures cannot offer. The evidence-based practice using MPV as a diagnostic measure for the condition is already in clinical practice and has offered a better tool for monitoring the condition. However, it is not widely applicable globally in clinical diagnostics practice. Symptoms: Symptoms of preeclampsia could include irritability, edema, and sudden increase in weight, nausea, decreased urination, belly pain and migraine-like headache. Causes and risk factors: Preeclampsia’s causes are not clearly known, but there are various propositions that point to various probable causes, which include heredity, blood vessel problems, dietar y effects and disorders of the autoimmune system. Factors that predispose pregnant mothers to the problem include advanced age (>35 years), kidney diseases, multiple and first pregnancies as well as pre-existent conditions such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Pathogenesis: The etiology of preeclampsia and its development are inconclusive. There is some uncertainty with regard to the development and progression of the condition. However, there is potential explanation on the mechanism of preeclampsia. According to David, Laresgoiti-Servitje and Gomez-Lopez (2010), the limitation of blood flow in placenta is cited as a possible trigger for hormone-based reactions, which cause damage to endothelium that lines the vascular system as well as inflammation that characterizes the condition. Alternative explanations from other studies show that alterations in the immune system and maternal. This research-based proposition is supported by evidence, which shows that shifts occur in the immune system in terms of component cells when the condition occurs. Alterations of allorecognition of the fetus have also been cited as a potential causes of inflammation that accompanies preeclampsia (Fonseca et al., 2007). Management and Treatment: The management of preeclampsia heavily relies on a pharmacologic approach aimed at controlling blood pressure levels (Drife, Magowan & Owen, 2009). This is the current common evidence-based clinical practice that is often put to use in the control of preeclampsia. The aim is to keep high

Compare and contrast essay Essay Example for Free

Compare and contrast essay Essay Brown Brothers; How Negative Stereotypes Affect Polynesian And Maori In New Zealand My demographic is: high school cleaning ladies, fast food burger-making, factory boxpacking, rubbish truck drivers, bus drivers, taxi drivers, sober drivers and living off the pension joy riders — I am a dropout. These are all ideas raised and challenged by Joshua Iosefos 2011 viral speech, Brown Brother. Brown Brother is one of three texts that will be examined, compared and contrasted in this essay. The second text, Manurewa, is a short film based on the South Auckland murder of Navtej Singh, a liquor shop owner. The third text is Fish Heads, a short story written by Aparina Taylor, that focuses on a group of Maori boys who live in the city. The media is a huge culprit for the negative stereotyping that has been brought upon pacifica people. Brown people are more than what they are portrayed to be through media. Films such as Manurewa reinforce many of the negative stereotypes that have been brought upon Pacific people. The stereotype of brown people is a negative one, one of unemployment, one of crime, one of violence. In Manurewa each one of these stereotypes were portrayed. The men in the short film were all unemployed, all committed crime and all showed violence. â€Å"Bro Town, Sione’s Wedding, and do I have to mention the GC? Now I dont mean to condescend I mean these shows are great, dont get me wrong but can anyone explain: will there ever be a time when our representation goes deeper than putting our own people to shame?† Joshua Iosefo, in his Brown Brother speech, spoke about this issue – how the media represents brown people in a negative light. He highlights how these types of shows create and enforce the stereotypes that brown people now have to live by. While these shows are meant to entertain, this negative reinforcement only show the bad side of Polynesian and Maori people. One of the major themes of the film Manurewa is about people being trapped by low expectations and invisible boundaries. People can become trapped from attaining success, trapped from fulfilling their potential, and trapped from being heard. The message in the film Manurewa is that not all brown  people are bad, but the expectations that their stereotypes have created for them along with the people that they are surrounded with often leads to them making horrific mistakes. In this true story, a good person has been surrounded with unemployed, violent people and ultimately ends up committing a murder. In the beginning of the film the boy shows that he does have love and passion in his heart through feeding and nurturing the horse. After the murder the three older men are happy and excited but the boy was completely distressed about what he had done. These two scenes clearly show that the boy is a good person who simply made a bad mistakes because of the people that he was surrounded by. When Joshua Iosefo performed Brown Brother at the Tedx conference, he explained how brown people are trapped because of expectations, and surroundings. Meaning that the expectations that have been set from the stereotypes as well as the people that they are surrounded by impact greatly and almost trap brown people from success. He used a box as an example, where he explained that each side of the box needs to be kicked down in order for Maori and Polynesian people to succeed. People need to make the change themselves through their own actions. Brown people need to stop being what the stereotypes expects them to be and need to start proving that they are better than the stereotype. In the short story, Fish Heads the Maori boys are short of money but they do not let this stop them. All four boys are employed, they all work for the little money that they have and they show that there is no reason to live the way that the stereotype expects them to live. They are not violent, they do not commit crimes and they do not drink alcohol excessively. They respect people and they are happy living a simple wholesome life. Similarly, Joshua Iosefo talks about beating the stereotype, about standing up and showing that you are better than the stereotype. â€Å"You can do all things through Christ, Philippians 4:13. You are more than capable. And I don’t say that just to make you feel better, I say that because I know. Cause your creator told me to tell you so. Yo u will go places, you will tell stories, so do not feel afraid or alone for your God and your family and your home will forever be inside the marrow of your bones. So do not fret, do not regret. For where you go, you take us with you. Brown brother, do not be afraid to be the first, the first to graduate, the first to climb, the first prime minister,  or the first good wife — brown brother, do not be afraid to be the change. Not in skin tone or colour, but a change in mindset. From one brown brother, to another†. These are the powerful words that Joshua pointed at people living under the expectations that the stereotype has set for them. This powerful message is aimed st those who have been beaten by the expectations that have been set by the stereotype. The three texts, Manurewa, Brown Brother and Fish Heads clearly illustrate that there are negative stereotypes and low expectations for Polynesians and Maori in New Zealand. These stereotypes can lead people to feel that they are stuck and defined by their stereotype. Joshua Iosefos speech, talked of the stereotype that was his demographic but also said that Polynesians needed to be responsible for overcoming or changing this stereotype. In the film Manurewa, the inability for Isaac to escape from this cycle of negativity lead the once caring teenager to associate with bad people and ultimately lead to him murdering an innocent man. Whereas in contrast, the text Fish Heads showed that if people are r emoved from negative environments and influences, they are able to live in a non-stereotypical way.
